In this installation, I wanted to make a visual nod to the history of sexual liberation, and the clubs that facilitated the work, the sex and the dance of generations before me. The dancefloor has been said to be a place of queer utopia, although like bathhouses, have had problematic histories inside and outside of the politics of the gay communities. The anal beads exaggerated size, rooted in the actual size of disco balls pulls the object away from a sex toy, into an art object, or monumental sculpture. Reflections of lights from the thousands of mirrored tiles are a reference to the dancefloors transformative nature.
